Lot description:

MACEDON. Koinon of Macedon. Pseudo-autonomous issue, struck during the reign of Severus Alexander, 222-235. Triassarion (Bronze, 26.5 mm, 13.86 g, 7 h), Beroea. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right. Rev. KOINON MAKEΔΟΝ[ΩΝ NE] Alexander the Great standing left, holding thunderbolt with his right hand and long scepter with his left. AMNG 341 corr (figure identified as Zeus). Very rare issue. Good very fine.

From a Basel collector formed before 1990.

The two die-identical specimens in Athens and Munich known to Gaebler must be of the usual – somewhat mediocre –average condition for this coinage, otherwise his identification of the reverse's figure as "Zeus" cannot be explained.

Starting Price: 75 CHF
